Beermen levels PBA semis series, 2-2, as Ross surges past Katropa

first_img[av_textblock size=” font_color=’custom’ color=’#0a0a0a’]MANILA – The San Miguel Beermen leaned on the career-game of Chris Ross to score a 97-86 victory over the TNT Katropa in Game 4 of their 2016-2017 Oppo PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals series on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.Ross led the way with a career-high 31 points, including five three-point conversions, for the Beermen, which bounced back from back-to-back losses to level the race-to-four series at 2-2.“Just try to fire my team. We are down 2-1 (entering the game). We just do not want to go down again,” said Ross. “I just want to rub my energy to my teammates. We want to win in (PBA championship) again.”June Mar Fajardo chipped in double-double 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter had 12 points apiece for the Beermen, which is gunning for its third straight All-Filipino crown.Trailing, 19-18, at the end of the opening frame, the Beermen broke away in the second frame behind Ross and Gabby Espinas for a 34-27 lead. It later grew to 44-32 at halftime with conversions from Fajardo and Cabagnot.The Beermen started strong in the third frame on back-to-back triples by Ross to build its largest lead at 62-40 with baskets from Lassiter and Fajardo. Despite a mini-run by the Katropa, the Beermen maintained a 71-50 edge on five straight points by Ross.The Katropa made its own rally to open the fourth frame as baskets by Jayson Castro, Roger Pogoy and Jeth Troy Rosario cut the deficit to 80-71.
