So much more interesting than: Gothamite 1,204 2,171 Share on other sites 0 That font used to be the stock font of the MacAuliffe company, and any teams supplied by them wore it. Spaulding and Wilson also used it for a time, but MacAuliffe stuck with it when others changed. Supplied by those manufacturers, the Brooklyn Dodgers wore it for a time, as noted. Also the Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers (very briefly), and even… the Yankees. The other companies moved to more standard block fonts, but MacAuliffe persisted. Being a Boston-based company, they supplied the Red Sox long after other clubs moved to different manufacturers, which is how the font became associated with the Sox specifically. It was something that helped me identify who had them as a supplier before they allowed manufacturers logos on the sleeve. Posted September 2, 2013 In the same way the Red Sox kept that manufacturer’s font, I wish the Bills could have kept the Champion font from the ’90s. It didn’t look good on most jerseys and yes, it looked crappy when used as the default font on all replicas. However, that font was the Bills to me growing up. The last few years before the awful millennial set, they kept the same uniforms with a standard block font, and it just wasn’t the same. wonderbread Share this post Sports Logos I believe the Red Sox number font was one of the most widely used and original ones, but now only Boston still uses it and so it has become known as distinctly theirs. 1,204 SportsLogos.Net BBTV 22,644 Share on other sites Favourite Logos:Florida State’s monograms and arrowhead | Late 90s/early 2000s Washington Capitals’ eagle | Coastal Carolina’s Chanticleer | Oklahoma State Cowboys | Tennessee Titans’ Fireball of Prometheus Share this post Posted September 7, 2013 Favourite Logos:Philadelphia EaglesSeattle MarinersCubs “Cuba” scriptFremantle Dockers Share on other sites 5,026 Sports Logo News Sports Logos Share on other sites Gothamite 22,644 Gothamite 18,000 five boroughs, one City. Starr and Hornung are clearly wearing two different fives. Then there’s this photo from October 2, 1960:Check out the sevens on Henry Jordan (#74) and Bill Forester (#71). Jordan is wearing the serifed style, which the Packers first used in 1959, returned to around 1962 and still use today. 0 Link to post 1,355 fonts Sign in to follow this 7,532 posts 0 Location:Somewhere on I-90 most likely 289 Sign in to follow this Sports Logo News Members five boroughs, one City.
